What is a Certified Site?

A SEED Certified Site is a development-ready property that meets specific criteria for commercial and industrial use. It must:

  • Be at least 20 acres, controlled by a single entity.
  • Have a local government or economic development organization compile and certify site data.
  • Feature essential infrastructure, including a 6” water main, industrial-capacity sanitary sewer, and 3-phase, 12 kV electric service.
  • Be marketed primarily by Sunflower, the community, and/or local economic development organizations for business recruitment and expansion.
  • Be cleared of dense forestation and relatively flat for development.
  • Be listed with LocationOne and Sunflower, with complete and current site details.
  • Receive official certification from Sunflower Electric Economic Development.

The program aims to:

  • Encourage communities to invest in and analyze sites before marketing them.
  • Standardize critical site data for site selectors and developers.
  • Establish a network of Sunflower Certified Sites for business attraction.
  • Enhance the competitive advantage of Sunflower members by ensuring development-ready properties.
  • Show commitment to streamlining economic development projects.

Eligible participants include:

  • Individuals working with a local economic development office, city, or county.
  • Local city or county governments.
  • Recognized economic development organizations at the local or regional level.

What Sunflower Provides

Sunflower serves as the Program Administrator, overseeing applications and certification. Once verified by a Sunflower’s independent third party, certified sites:

  • Receive the Sunflower Certified Site designation.
  • Are featured on this website and receive a Certified Site seal on LocationOne.
  • Will be recognized and marketed by the Kansas Department of Commerce.
